The bar chart compares four different after-school sports activities that Australian boys and girls took part in 2010. Overall, participation levels of both genders were similar for most sport types; however, there were disproportionate discrepancies in football and netball.
The most popular sports activity among boys was football, with one in five of them reported to have taken football sessions in 2010. This was in stark contrast to the percentage of girls in the same sport, a mere 4%, which marks a significant gap. The riverse, however, was true for netball, where girls dominated with around 17% compared to only 2% of boys, an even more pronounced difference.
The second most preferred activity, both for boys and girls, was swimming, at 13% and 16% respectively. Next came basketball, with males slightly outnumbering females (7% versus 8%), closely followed by the category of “no sports” with the ratio of 4% to 5%.
