The table compares the daily consumption of three grain products – rice, wheat and maize – measured in calories per person in four different countries.
Overall, each country shows a clear preference for a particular staple food. Cambodia consumes the most rice, Egypt and Poland rely mainly on wheat, while maize is the dominant grain in Mexico. Poland records the lowest overall consumption of grain products.
Rice consumption is by far the highest in Cambodia, at 1,445 calories per person per day. This figure is almost three times higher than in Egypt, where rice accounts for 501 calories. In contrast, rice consumption in Poland and Mexico is minimal, at 19 and 57 calories respectively.
Wheat is most heavily consumed in Egypt, with 1,095 calories per day, followed by Poland at 865 calories. Mexico consumes a moderate amount of wheat, while Cambodia has the lowest figure at just 18 calories.
Maize consumption is highest in Mexico at 1,083 calories. Egypt consumes about half this amount, Cambodia consumes relatively little, and Poland does not consume maize at all.
