Band 6+: The tables below show data about the amount of television watched by children in different countries (hours per day) and also the average academic achievement of people in these countries (% of people completing each level). Write a report for a university lecturer describing the information shown below, and make comparisons where relevant.

The tables give facts about hours’ spent by children in front of television and proportion of students completing three levels of education.

Regarding hours’ spent on television per day, the USA, Canada, and the UK have the highest with 4 hours. China and Brazil, the second highest having 3 hours, followed by India(2 hours). Malta and the UAE have only 1 hour, which is a quarter of the highest.

Turning to Academic achievements, 100% of the children completed school in Italy, Canada, and Malta, while, the other countries are in the range of 90 to 99 except India having the lowest at 80%. High school completion ranges from 100% in Malta to levels in 90’s( Italy, Canada, UAE) and the 80’s (UK, USA, and Brazil). China and India have the lowest level at 68% and 60% respectively. University completion, UK stands at the top with 39%, followed by Canada (32%) and USA (29%). Italy, China, and Brazil are all in the mid 20’s range. The lowest figures here are for Malta and the UAE (18% and 19% respectively) and finally India with only 12%.

In summary, television use and education levels vary widely. It is noticeable, that the countries with most hours spent on television also has the highest percentage of university graduates.
