The table presents statistics about the demographics of Nez Zealand in 2011 and 2012, divided by four age groups.
Overall, the country saw a slight increase in the total number of population, especially regarding those aged 40+, while the proportion of younger individuals slightly dropped. It’s evident from the table that the number of New Zealand citizens whose age was below 15 years old in 2011 decreased by 0.2% in 2012, totaling 896,364 children. The following age group ( 15 to 39 years old), which was almost half larger compared to the previous one, also saw the same drop. Taken together, people aged less than 40 year old constitute the majority of New Zealand’s population, yet their percentage has shrunk.
The last two age categories, accounting for almost two million people, have both enlarged their portion in the total population number. The 40-64 years olds represent the second-largest age group, and their number further increased by 0.6% over the year. The last population group, named 65+, is the smallest one, yet it has seen the most significant growth, which is 4%. Therefore, the total number of elderly in New Zealand went up by almost 23 thousand individuals.
