Moreover, the population over 65 years old has significantly grown by 4.0%, while the number of people between 40 and 64 years old has climbed gently by 0.6%, making up 596.903 and 1.339.898 people respectively.
On the other hand, both under 15 and between 15 and 39 age groups have experienced a minor decrease by 0.2%. However, despite these declines, in 2012 there were more young people (896.364 and 1.574.102) than older ones (1.339.898 and 596.903).
