As healthcare is one of the most vital services, many individuals believe that the government should provide it free of charge. I firmly agree with this view due to the prevention of many serious diseases and the government’s obligation to protect its taxpayers.
The primary reason for my agreement is that free medical care can prevent various illnesses. For one, if the authorities offer state-funded healthcare, people will be less likely to delay their treatment or a doctor visit. As a result, medical professionals might make an accurate diagnosis, thereby treating diseases in a timely manner. For another, due to the high costs of medical care, individuals with contagious diseases may ignore the symptoms, thereby increasing the likelihood of spreading their illness. The outbreak of Ebola in African countries can be a good case in point. Because of unreasonably high medical expenses, many African people did not visit a clinic, consequently transmitting the deadly virus across large parts of the region. Had free medical intervention been offered earlier in that region, numerous human lives could have been saved.
While prevention is merely one aspect of this issue, another is the responsibility of the national government towards its citizens. As individuals pay taxes, the government ought to safeguard the well-being of its residents by rendering various essential services, including medical facilities. These services are typically funded using money raised from taxpayers, so it would be sensible to reinvest this revenue into publicly funded healthcare. Uzbekistan is among the countries that have undertaken this initiative; state-funded hospitals are free of charge for local residents, contributing to a healthier population.
To conclude, even basic services such as healthcare are not free in many countries. Nevertheless, government-sponsored medical care is an obligation of the state and can play a crucial role in preventing large-scale health crises. For these reasons, I strongly believe that medical care must be provided at no cost to citizens.
