In today’s society, there are more and more students make decision on moving to other countries to study for higher education. Although this trend can have some drawbacks, I believe the benefits outweigh the disadvantages as it helps students gain more experience and become more independently.
First and foremost, studying abroad can cause some challenges for students, especially in terms of finance and mental health. Tuition fees and cost of living in some countries such as America, the UK and Australia are often higher than students’ hometown. As a result, some families may have to take out loans or even work harder to ensuir their children’s academic path. This may cause higher financial pressure for parents and students themselves for many years, and perhaps they can give up their dreams due to these financial drawbacks. Furthermore, living far from away family and friends in an unfamiliar environment can make students feel isolated and homesick. Over time, sense of loneliness will affect students’ academic performance negatively and even cause serious health problems like depression.
However, the advantages of studying abroad cannot be underestimated. One of the most significant benefits is that it expand students’ knowledge and bring higher-quality education. In develped countries, facilities and public amenities are more modern and innovative. For example, in the United States, there are many prestigious universities such as Havard and Stanford, where lecturers and academic environment are significantly professional. These universities provide well-equipped laboratories and regularly updated curricula, which helps students gain depth-knowledge as well as practical skills for worldwide job market. Besides, studying overseas may change students’ perspectives about the world, resulting in becoming more independent and confident. Working in a team and discussing with foreign friends also advance communication skills and make it easier for yong people to work in international environments in the future.
Overall, although studying overseas may involve some negative obstacles, I believe its advantages are far more important.
