Happiness is considered one of the most important aspects of our lives. Many believe that individuals can be happy if they choose to be, while others argue that factors beyond mere desire are key to experiencing happiness. In my view, the quality of life plays the most significant role in attaining happiness. This essay, however, delves into both perspectives.
On one hand, individuals bear the responsibility of pursuing their own happiness. The nature of happiness varies according to individuals’ interests, and no one can fully comprehend another’s emotions. If someone truly desires happiness, they may discover it in various aspects of their lives. For example, some derive joy from their own and their loved ones’ well-being, while others find fulfillment in pushing their boundaries. Nevertheless, mere desire may be insufficient in certain situations where living standards greatly influence the attainment of happiness.
On the other hand, before striving for happiness, individuals must first fulfill their basic needs, such as shelter and sustenance. It may seem illogical to pursue happiness without a place to live or food to eat. From my experience, I have never met individuals who achieved happiness without first meeting their basic necessities. Moreover, having a job that allows individuals to spend quality time with their families and friends to nurture strong relationships is crucial. These relationships are often considered the primary contributors to happiness.
In conclusion, though aspiring for happiness is vital for its attainment, it appears to me that individuals should focus initially on improving their living conditions.
