For instance, when a public health crisis arises, government- funded research is critical in thinking of solutions that are accessible to everyone, rather than being limited to the financial interests of private companies. In contrast, commercial corporations usually are motivated by immediate profits, which can lead to focus only in sectors that offer the higher profits rather than long-term benefits.
Additionally, research funded by the government is likely to be transparent and available to the public. In the comparison with shareholders in private businesses, they may withhold information about their finding due to the commercial profits, the authorities study usually open to everyone. This transparency allows other researchers to build on the findings and create an open, collaborative environment that speeds up scientific advancement.
To sum up, I believe that the government plays the primary role in conducting scientific research. This ensures that the research is focused on public good, is transparent, and aligns with the needs of society.
