Traditionally, law enforcement and the armed forces were the exclusive domain of men but in the modern world, many are calling for the unbiased acceptance of women in these fields. From my perspective, this proposal should be given a try because the results may be beneficial for everyone.
On one hand, the brain is as important as brawn when it comes to policing and soldiering. The body can always be improved by training, something that female applicants are willing and able to do. When it comes to the mental aspect, more women today are better educated than men, so it means that they can take on intellectually demanding tasks. Whether the job requires muscles or brains, there is no reason why women cannot do it.
On the other hand, traditionalists argue that females are unfortunately ill-suited because of their biology. Science has proven over and over again that women have less testosterone and lower muscle mass, something which is a tremendous advantage in combat situations, especially when it is life-and-death. Moreover, the majority of women have monthly periods, and a good number even have dysmenorrhea, meaning that they are debilitated at least once a month. Last but not the least, women cannot be involved in combat or high-stress situations when they are pregnant.
In my opinion, excluding women from these fields is narrow-minded because being a soldier or a police officer does not include fighting most of the time. The work includes other areas such as logistics, healthcare, administration, law, and most especially, public relations. Women would arguably be better than the opposite sex in many of these tasks, and especially in dealing with widows and orphans in war-torn areas
In conclusion, warfare and law enforcement has evolved so governments must be open-minded to opening the doors to women because this move might be a game-changer.
