People have differing views about the role of education on learners. While some argue that formal education should primarily prepare learners to meet communal goals, I contend that it should prioritize personal goals, as this fosters individual motivation and high performance.
The argument regarding the importance of education in nurturing learners for community needs holds some merit. Most people living communities need to abide by social order and upgrade their knowledge for the common good of all its members. Most jobs including but not limited to doctors, police officers and fire fighters indeed serve to common goal, which explains why most of the education is delivered intending to prepare prospective recruits to the future career. Group projects, team work and pair work prepare school graduates for the world of work where they will have to team up with other colleagues to reach their target.
That being said, not all jobs require workers to work in collaboration, which makes streamlining education for the common goal somehow imperfect. Modern jobs grant workers freedom of choice regarding how they complete their assignments. IT specialists, for example, complete most of the project on their own and do not have to rely on external help or support from other specialists. Therefore, modern education ought to foster a sense of individual self-worth and independence to allow students inhibit skillset which enables them to be prepared to take workload on their shoulders rather than depending on others’ assistance. After all, people are more motivated to exhibit their best performance in their occupation when they complete tasks to attain their personal targets.
In conclusion, while education that focuses on communal goals helps foster teamwork and social responsibility, it is crucial that educational systems also prioritize personal development. By encouraging students to pursue their own ambitions, we can cultivate a generation of motivated individuals who not only excel in their careers but also contribute positively to society.
