Some people are firmly convinced that schools are the most suitable place for learning these skills, while others argue that parents should take the main responsibility. After thorough consideration of all relevant factors, I believe that both school lessons and home guidance are essential for children.
First and foremost, when viewed from an educational perspective, it is evident that the educational environment would be the ideal choice for all children to have access to this practical knowledge through real-life examples and interesting lectures. Although the potentially negative impacts of learning at school must be taken into account, I still reckon that schools can teach these skills in a more systematic way. For example, a prominent scientist once stated that students learn quickly and apply it in life through easy-to-understand and engaging lectures by teachers. It is thus clearly shown that school-based programmes can build children’s awareness.
Additionally, another social factor should also be taken into account in this situation. As far as society is concerned, the ultimate aim of shaping children’s behavior in environmental issues really needs the parent’s guidance. For instance, a recent article published in The Economists revealed that children are more likely to recycle properly when their parents practise it at home, such as separating waste, avoiding plastic bags, or reusing items. Undoubtedly, this is a clear indication that parents play a crucial role in helping them apply these lessons to real-life situations.
