There is a notion among people that a university degree is the key to being successful in life. Others, however, argue that qualifications are unnecessary in today’s modern era. While both perspectives hold merit, I believe that a university degree alone does not guarantee success since other factors play a more vital role.
On the one hand, a university degree gives individuals various opportunities, such as getting a professional job and long-term stability. In the long run, this gives them a chance to get a higher salary after promotions stages of their work. Additionally, at university they do not only get educational knowledge, but highly usefel skills that can be beneficial in a workforce. This includes how to communicate professionally, managing time as well as responsibilities. Apart from that, a qualification makes people’s CV stronger and gives access to professional positions in a copmetitive workforce.
On the other hand, these days not every job requires a degree. For some professions life skills are far more important, such as talent, experience, and social skills. These qualities can not be taught at universities so many jobs do not ask for a formal qualification. In addition, in the past in order to get a proper job individuals had to get a university education as they did not know even how to use computers. These kind of skills taught at universities as a core subject, and later could be used in workplaces. However, now everyone knows how to use computers and has access to education through online platforms which makes qualifications seem unnecessary.
In my view, a university education alone can not guarantee success. Running a successful business does not require academic qualification as it more relies on innovation, risk-taking ability, and leadership. These skills are developed through direct experience, trial and error, and continuous learning in real market conditions – not only in classrooms. Take Steve Jobs, for instance, he did not even get a college diploma, but despite this fact he launched one of the most successful companies in the world – ”Apple”. His curiosity, creativity and eagerness for improvement helped him to become successful, and one of the wealthiest man in the world, even without a degree.
In conclusion, I understand why some believe a university education is the key to success since it opens many doors by by providing long-term stability as well as an opportunity to get high-status job. Nevertheless, I remain convinced that there are much more factors that helps individuals to become successful, including life skills and a type of the job people want.
