The claim is that more refugees should be accepted by developed countries and be provided with basic necessities. Although I acknowledge the importance of this approach, I agree with this idea to some extent because of several reasons.
First and foremost, governments are acutely aware that some refugees leave their native countries due to poverty, war, or political instability; therefore, they seek safer places to rebuild their lives. If these countries refuse to accept refugees or provide basic assistance, many of them may struggle to survive due to a lack of essential resources. In the event of not accepting these refugees and not supporting basic needs, they will most probably die because of shortage of essential resources. This is exemplified by the fact that several refugees from Iraq try to settle in Turkey, and with the help of this country they try to rebuild their lives. Therefore I argue that some rich countries should accept responsibilities of these poor people.
However, I mostly agree that governments should spend their money on their citizens and the development process instead of accepting more refugees. Taking the example of United States, it is a popular well-rounded country. However, many homeless people struggle to find basic necessities such as food and shelter. Instead of investing money in other countries’ residents, it would be better to increase their living standards. Furthermore, there are several cities where their population increases continuously, leading to an increase in demand for facilities such as hospitals and schools.
In conclusion, although it may be more appropriate for some countries to accept more refugees, I am of the opinion that instead of taking responsibility for more refugees, they should spend money on their citizens’ quality of life.
