The demand of oil and gas is increasing these days as the sources for these resources are getting scarcer. This is why searching for these resources in remote area might be necessary. Even though there is an advantage to this situation, the disadvantages outweigh them.
One advantage of finding new sources in remote areas is that it is not directly affecting humans. If the new sources are in untouched areas, there are likely not many people living there, this will cause the least amount of disturbance in finding new sources. For instance, if they search for these sources in crowded areas, there will be a lot of families that may have to move if these resource sources are found. That’s what happens to small villages in desserts where they struck oil. Therefore, finding sources to reach the demand for gas and oil in untouched areas is the lesser evil.
On the other hand, one of the main disadvantages of this situation is that trying to find these sources in remote or untouched areas will likely lead to the nature being ruined. For example, if they want to drill for oil in a dessert, the wildlife in that area will have to be removed. This will, hence, destroy the ecosystem. This will likely lead to the loss of many species of plants or animals native to that area.
Furthermore, the lack of oil and gas as fuels could force people to start using biofuels. Instead of destroying these areas to find resources that are the main cause of climate change, it would be better for the environment to leave them untouched and find new sources of fuels. Nowadays since there is a lack of these fuels and the prices are high, people are choosing to buy vehicles that run on electricity or biofuels. This will eventually save the world since better fuels are found and the nature is left undisturbed as well.
In conclusion, the disadvantages of finding new sources of oil and gas in rural areas outweigh the advantages. There should be a search for fuels that are good for the environment, like biofuels, rather than fuels which destroy the ozone layer and lead to climate change.
