Band 8+: Some people think that schools are no longer necessary because people can acquire information on the Internet. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

Education has witnessed significant development globally, with many areas experiencing a shift in how learning is delivered. Some thinkers now argue that traditional schools are becoming obsolete due to the rise of online resources. I fully support this viewpoint, and in the following paragraphs, I will elaborate on my reasons with pertinent examples and a well-rounded conclusion.

To begin with, the primary reason why schools may no longer be essential for educating children lies in the accessibility and convenience of the internet. The digital age has enabled learners to access vast amounts of information from any part of the world, be it from Russia, the USA, or India. Furthermore, online learning proves to be more cost-effective as it eliminates the need to pay for school fees and materials. Another significant advantage is the flexibility that self-directed learning offers. Learners can tailor their study schedules according to their preferences, allowing those who do not excel in morning routines to study in the evening, for instance.

On the other hand, some may oppose this notion, arguing that schools still play a crucial role in providing a structured environment for learning. Schools enforce rules and regulations, which instill discipline among students, as seen in private institutions where strict adherence to guidelines is mandatory. Moreover, schools are vital in fostering social skills such as friendship, cooperation, and coordination. Additionally, trained teachers offer specialized guidance, catering to the individual needs of students. Thus, it is evident that schools continue to offer considerable benefits for students.

In conclusion, although the availability, cost-effectiveness, and flexibility of online education might suggest that schools are becoming redundant, I believe that traditional schools remain invaluable due to their role in skill development, socialization, and the provision of expert instruction.
