While e-books have been widely used in recent years, paper books seem to be falling out of fashion. For some people, such a trend is a big progress, for others, however, it states the opposite. In this essay, e-books will be examined as the most convenient resource of information or as an easy gateway to book piracy. Although there may be some drawbacks to using e-books as a main source of reading, the advantages far outweigh them.
E-books seem to be going hand in hand with book piracy, as more and more people have become more comfortable with using electronic devices as a main source of reading. While book piracy is not a modern problem, it definitely has been growing exponentially due to e-book usage and caused some significant damage to small storytellers. For example, in the case of Maggie Stiefvater, the author of the Raven Boys quadrilogy, it is known that she lost a half of her income caused by book piracy.
The rise of e-books usage among the general public has also played a major role in letting people from all kinds of backgrounds gain knowledge from every corner of the planet. Over time, it has become the most comfortable and accessible way to acquire information. I, personally, would never read as many culturally diverse books in my childhood, as physical copies were either too expensive or hard to obtain.
To conclude, although e-books enable book piracy, which may have dire consequences for some small authors, they also give many more people access to global knowledge. Thus, the advantages of e-books significantly outweigh their disadvantages
