Nowadays, global warming has been a popular environmental issue in the last few decades and it pose a threat to the survival of wildlife and biodiversity on our planet. Scientist and environmental activists around the world propose governments to tackle this problem for sustainability and preservation of environment.
To begin with, global warming arises from greenhouse gasses emission stem from vehicles and plants using fossil fuels such as coal, gasoline and petrol released to the atmosphere, and once accumulated, leads to the rises of air temperature. Furthermore, according to the survey conducted by The Jakarta Post in 2020, the average air temperature rose approximately by 0,5° C annually in the last few years. This phenomenon has detrimental effects to the weather changes and in some areas in Indonesia, leads to the long drought, and, eventually make it as a major contributor to failure staple crops.
As a result, the governments need to take actions to combat this problem. Firstly, limiting the use of private vehicles by enacting a high tax on new cars from dealers. Secondly, they should encourage societies to use public transportation, especially those using electricity as their energy source. As a result, by taking these policies, less greenhouse emissions will be produced and thus decelerate the process of the ozone layer depletion. For example, in Beijing the emission from fossil fuels has decreased approximately by 30% since the introduction of the train commuter line and imposing taxes on new cars for 25% in 2005.
In conclusion, the governments and societies can take action to solve global warming problems by enacting high taxes on new cars and using public transportation to reduce the effects of the greenhouse emissions released into the atmosphere.
