Band 6+: As a country develops, people tend to buy more cars. Do the advantages for the individual outweigh the disadvantages for the environment?

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

Countries that are more developed, tend to have more citizens with high standards of living resulting in most of them able to buy quite a number of cars, luxurious ones to be specific. For example, there are more cars found in first world countries than there are in third world nations. This is because the majority number in developing countries do not afford to buy them.

It is a good thing if the majority of the population is living comfortably and spending its money in buying things. This results in boosting a coutry’s economy since the majority of people will be spending their finances. Car sales will also increase their sales, garages as well and the oil industry will make a lot of money.

Although individuals and other stakeholders mentioned above benefits from buying cars, the environment will suffer a lot. In first world countries, almost every household own more than one car. Most of these cars use oil. The emmission that comes from the cars contributes a lot to global warming. There is so much carbon dioxide that is being produce by the burning fuel and this results in climate change.

It is estimated that for the last 10 years, the earth has increased its temperatute by 1’C, making it the most highest increase ever recorded in a decade. If we do not do anything about this, in the coming future, the planet will not be a suitable place for humans and animal survival.

In conclusion, inorder to fight the global warming issue, all nations should start introducing electrical cars and in the coming all fuel consumption vehicles should be phased out. Norway has already introduced the law of phasing out fuel vehicles. Most of car sales are now required to sell electrical cars. If we all cooperate and phase out oil cars, the world would be a better place again.
