The cost of healthcare is increasing, causing governments to balance their overall budgets. Many argue that citizens should fund for their own healthcare needs via private insurance practices, while others believe that the governments should provide free healthcare for all. In my opinion, it is the responsibility of the government to ensure that the healthcare needs of all its citizens are met, as not all of the people in the nation can afford it.
On the one hand, a significant number of individuals believe that healthcare services should be privately funded by each person. This could be due to the fact that the illnesses of all individuals are not the same. For instance, a majority of individuals who visit the outpatient departments of hospitals sustain minor injuries, like scrapes or scratches, which are comparatively more cost-effective than those who are suffering from cancer or other complex chronic illnesses. Even though the number of people who are subject to severe diseases are less, their prolonged hospital stays, along with their treatment plans, are responsible for a substantial portion of healthcare expenditures. For this reason, I maintain that people who are unable to afford such exorbitant treatment options must be provided assistance from their respective governments to alleviate their suffering.
On the other hand, many state that governments ought to provide free healthcare to their people. Particularly in impoverished areas, many struggle with meeting their daily needs. This is because they are low-wage earners who work as labourers, or other menial jobs to make ends meet. The salaries they receive are barely sufficient to cover the costs of housing, food, and other daily provisions. For these individuals, healthcare, especially during an emergency, may seem like a luxury. Therefore, I also believe that the government should take proactive measures to help these marginalized individuals, particularly in times of crisis.
In conclusion, many governments are under pressure regarding the rising costs of healthcare, leading them to make significant changes to their budgets. While many believe it is their own personal responsibility to provide for their own healthcare needs, others argue that the government has a duty to provide healthcare for its citizens. As far as I am concerned, I believe that the government should provide healthcare for all its people, as not everyone is privileged enough to have access to healthcare.
