Some people have demanded free of cost education and healthcare while others are opposed to this proposal as they think it is their duty to pay these services. While I understand the arguments supporting the former view, I firmly stand by the latter.
Those who believe in the former idea believe that such a significant assistance will allow people to access education and healthcare services regardless of their economic background. This policy significantly assists the country’s citizens, especially individuals who are unemployed, homeless, or ridden with disabilities. This will create a favorable condition to establish a foundation for a workforce with well-qualified and healthy people who are the key factors for the development of a country. Additionally, having the government cover these basic needs would alleviate the financial strain on citizens and ensure the quality of life.
However, the citizens themselves take responsibility for these services for some reason. First of all, paying for these services by themselves can contribute to avoiding financial burdens for the government since the government’s budget resources are limited. Apart from education and healthcare, the government must also allocate funds to other sectors such as the economy, tourism, and infrastructure, which could unintentionally hinder economic progress and national development. Secondly, when people are responsible to pay for these funds, they will have easily meet their demands. Both education and healthcare will be more flexible and open with higher quality of facilities and which can fully meet the needs and bring satisfaction to the people
In conclusion, I believe both healthcare and education are basic fundamental rights, necessary for the country’s development. Nevertheless, individuals should also be prepared to pay for it to avoid causing a financial burden for the government’s budget and living too dependent on it
