Some people argue that TV viewing has an adverse impact on children, but others say that it can have beneficial impacts on them. Although inappropriate TV programs may pose risks to children’s personality development, I believe that educational content on television can foster children’s awareness and talents. I will discuss both of these perspectives in the following essay.
On the one hand, some kinds of programs shown on television can lead to children’s bad behavior. Nowadays, young children can easily use technology devices by themselves without their parents’ assistance, making it difficult for adults to control all the content that children are confronted with. As a result, they may be exposed to violent content, which may facilitate or trigger violent behaviors in children. Some research has shown that if children watch a lot of programs depicting violent actions, it could result in them behaving aggressively, whether physically or verbally, toward their peers. Moreover, due to their youth and limited understanding of certain issues like smoking or alcohol, children may develop distorted perceptions of reality, leading them to believe such behaviors as acceptable at a young age. An illustrative example of this occurred during my childhood when my classmate, influenced by a television character, attempted to consume alcohol at the age of 10.
On the other hand, specific TV programs with content suitable for children, including artistic or educational channels, can contribute to fostering potential talents in children’s developmental progress. Firstly, watching craft, drawing, or musical programs can enhance children’s creativity by inspiring artistic interests, thereby helping them explore their own passions and express their creative artistic talents. For example, the TV program “Art Attack” provides a wide range of art projects, techniques, and tips for children to explore various forms of art. It inspires young artists and nurtures a love for creativity from an early age. Furthermore, watching suitable educational series would contribute positively to children’s awareness and psychological development. This not only offers valuable knowledge but also fosters positive social behavior in children.
In conclusion, although some unsuitable TV programs may trigger risky behaviors in children, watching appropriate educational programs can contribute positively to children’s knowledge and creative abilities.
