In the recent years, there has been many debates regarding teaching students their own country’s literature or providing them with literature from other cultures. I strongly believe that providing students with literature from their own country can be beneficial in various ways.
Firstly, it would assist the younger generation in knowing more about their identity. Literature is a crucial part to all the existing cultures all around the globe. Therefore, it plays an important role in shaping people’s identity, and it can help individuals get more information about the ways their ancestors used to cope with difficulties in life. As a result, by gathering more information about their own country’s literature they can find their true identity, facsilating their lives on a big picture.
Secondly, by reading poems and stories from the past, children can develop a sense of pride towards their own country. Many students find reading patriotic literature interesting and choose them over other types of literature such as romantic or religious literature. To illustrates, many young individuals in Iran and Afghanistan prefer reading Shahnameh over other books written in the same time period. Therefore, by reading this type of literature their love towards their country can be boosted, which can be a sign for a bright future for the society.
In conclusion, I wholeheartedly believe that educating young generations using literature from their home country can be beneficial in helping them understanding more about their past and providing them with a patriotic feeling towards their country.
