It is often thought that governments should impose tax on unhealthy food items to motivate people. However, I completely disagree with the idea and think that there are much better ways to make people avoid unhealthy foods.
Many people think that implementing a tax on unhealthy foods would make people to buy healthy food items. They may think that to avoid extra tax, people will avoid unhealthy food items in their shopping list. However, in reality, it will not work for everyone as a majority of the wealthy portion of a country can afford the extra tax to indulge in unhealthy food items such as pizza and burger. Therefore, this method will not work for the vast majority of the people.
On the other hand, I believe that there are other ways to persuade people for preferring healthy items rather than unhealthy options. Firstly, it is more logical to fine companies who make those food items rather than imposing tax on customers. By implementing tax on the food production companies, the government can ensure that the root cause of the problem can be solved. Secondly, the government can force those companies to make organic, healthy, and nutritious food items and offer those items in a cheaper and affordable price. If this is done, consumers will be automatically encouraged to make healthier food choices regardless of their financial background.
In conclusion, I hold the belief that there are much more effective alternatives to encourage people to eat healthier food rather than adding more tax to unhealthy food.
