Band 7+: Some today argue that schools are no longer necessary because children can learn so much from the internet and be educated at home.To what extent do you agree or disagree?

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

It is argued by some that advancements in technology have rendered traditional schooling unnecessary, as children now have access to a wealth of educational resources on the Internet and can receive an education at home. From my point of view, I strongly disagree with this assertion as the potential negative impact of unvetted information from the internet on children’s overall development cannot be ignored.

Undeniably, with the rapid evolution of technology and the prevalence of social media, today’s youth have easy access to a diverse array of information sources to augment their knowledge. The internet affords young people the opportunity to explore a multitude of online courses and gather information from social networking platforms to stay abreast of current events and expand their understanding across various domains including technology, science, and tourism. Furthermore, this approach also offers the advantage of saving a significant amount of both time and money, as students are

not required to pay tuition fees or commute to a physical school. Consequently, it is not unfounded for some to advocate for home-based learning to enhance children’s academic performance without the need for formal educational institutions.

However, despite the wealth of information available on the internet, maintain the belief that most children are naive and impressionable, thereby lacking the ability to discern between fact and fiction in the online sphere. Consequently, they may inadvertently internalize unchecked information that could negatively impact their cognitive development and shape their future beliefs. Additionally, engaging in face-to-face classroom learning allows students to interact with peers and educators, thereby honing their interpersonal and social skills. Hence, I contend that it is essential for young learners to be enrolled in formal educational settings instead of being solely reliant on home-based educational programs.

In conclusion, while technology undeniably facilitates the expansion of children’s knowledge base, I am staunch in my belief that it is imperative to provide them with opportunities to participate in a school-based learning environment, as this allows for the acquisition of accurate information and the development of crucial communication and social skills.
